I teach workshops on a variety of employment related topics.  Note that many of these events focus specifically on the disabled job seeker.  Others, however, are open to anyone looking to improve their resume or interviewing skills.

 

Webinar: Disclosing Your Disability

Date: June 19, 2000 ▪ Time: 2:00PM – 3:00PM

I will be joining the BIAWA’s monthly meeting to discuss the legal aspects of disclosing a disability during the job search process. The webinar will include:
-Understanding the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and it’s requirements for disclosure
-Determining when to disclose
-Addressing fear and developing practical wording for your disclosure.

Date:  September 3-6, 2019   ▪   Time:  8:00AM – 9:30AM   ▪   Location:  WA State Dept. of Services for the Blind, 3411 S. Alaska St, Seattle, WA   ▪   Cost:  Free

NOTE:  You must be referred by your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to attend these 4 day workshops.

I teach this class on a bi-annual basis.  Participants will learn how and when to disclose their disability during the interview process.  We will also go over the legalities of disability disclosure and the employer’s obligation to accommodate people with vision loss.  Included in the class will be instruction regarding how to write an ‘employer friendly’ resume and cover letter.  Interview coaching is also included.  This class is interactive and participants are encouraged to bring their questions regarding securing employment in a world where many employers are not aware of the capabilities of people with vision loss.

Youth Employment Class

Date:  July 6-13, 2018   ▪   Time:  8:00AM – 10:30AM ▪   Location:  YES Program, 4527 21st Ave NE, Seattle, WA   ▪   Cost:  Free

This class teaches high school students how to approach potential employers and how to present themselves in a professional light.  Students will learn how to compose an “employer friendly” resume and cover letter.  This is a ‘hands on’ class and participants will work in teams to create their own letters and resumes.  I will also be teaching interview techniques and how to respond to interview questions when you have no previous work experience.

Intro to Zoomtext 11 for Librarians

Zoomtext 11 is an assistive technology software recently installed on all SPL ADA computers.  It is strikingly different from Zoomtext 10 which was installed previously.  This class teaches librarians how to launch the software and magnify the print for patrons with visual disabilities

In this class you will learn to:

-Use hot keys to customize the screen for patrons with varying levels of vision
-Enlarge and decrease font size
-Utilize the App Reader
-Use Zoomtext to complete online SPL forms
